IN PLAIN SIGHT

Make the invisible impact visible

Every year, millions of tonnes of clothes are made, worn just a few times, and then tossed away. What we don’t often see is what goes into making them. This series invites us to reflect on the systems we’ve normalized and imagine what a less wasteful, more circular society could look like.

To make just one cotton T-shirt, it takes 660 gallons of fresh water. That’s enough drinking water to sustain one person for 2.5 years. And the problem goes beyond water use. The textile industry is responsible for around 20% of the world’s clean water pollution, mainly from dyeing and finishing processes.

We also know that 57% of all discarded clothing worldwide ends up in landfills. Our throwaway culture feels like a battlefield, a provocative view where you can sense the damage. This is the result of a linear system, one that takes resources, makes products, and discards them. But nature doesn’t work that way. Nature is circular. Everything flows back into the system, supporting life.

So what do we do with fashion? We reimagine it. We redesign the way clothes are made, used, and repurposed. We create a fashion economy that is aligned with nature and made from clean, safe, plant-based materials. Designed to be used more and wasted less. Once materials are used mindfully, designed to return safely to the Earth, we begin to shape something cleaner, more intentional, and in harmony with nature.
