Holy Forty
Inspired by the Feast of the Forty Martyrs and Romanian Orthodox traditions, the sweet rolls shaped in the form of a figure 8 are drenched in honey and sprinkled with walnuts to announce the arrival of spring and represent eternal life. The scene, deceptively calm, is a perfect counterpoint to the memories I have of my childhood when I was patiently waiting for the sweet rolls made by my grandma. The background is dramatic and the rolls shine, bathed in ephemeral light. The scene looks contemplative, encouraging an intimate relation with the viewer, just like in a memory.
